Service & Philanthropy

  •      The Lafayette College Chapter of Delta Upsilon has a long history of not only giving back to the Lafayette College Community, but to the city of Easton as well. Our Chapter has experienced a great relationship with the Spring Garden Children’s Center of Easton. Our brothers travel to Spring Garden weekly to act as mentors, tutors, role models, and friends to the young and underprivileged children of Easton.

Every spring, our Chapter invites all children from Spring Garden and Easton to participate in the DU Carnival where we raffle off a hot air balloon ride to raise money for Spring Garden. After the raffle, we invite the children from Spring Garden and the surrounding Easton area to enjoy a day at Lafayette with carnival games and other fun activities. In addition to our 10th annual Carnival that will be held this spring, we will be raising money for Spring Garden with events like "DU Spinning" and the “Delta House of Pancakes (DHOP)”.

Several times each month, we host DU Spinning at which we sell burgers and hot dogs with all the proceeds going directly to Spring Garden. On November 13th, we will be co-hosting DHOP with the Delta Delta Delta sorority. It is a four hour event at which we will be selling pancakes and splitting the proceeds with the Delta Delta Delta sorority.

In addition to Spring Garden, we give back to many other organizations. We have been collecting soda tabs in an attempt to give a child the chemotherapy he or she desperately needs. When we collect 5000 soda tabs, one child will receive Chemotherapy free of charge. We are working in cooperation with many people from the College Community and even a school district in Northeastern Pennsylvania to help reach our goal of 5000 tabs to help benefit these cancer pacients.

This fall one of our brothers, Nicholas Ferenchak ’10, participated in a run to help raise money for research involving a group known as the Parkinson’s. Nicholas was able to raise over one hundred dollars for the event.

The Brothers of Delta Upsilon also participated in the Lehigh Valley Kidney Walk this past October. We were able to raise $350 to donate to the National Kidney Foundation to benefit people in need of Kidney Transplants.
